Sports Massage Therapy

What is it? How does it help me? Should I do it? Find all the answers here…

What is Sports Massage Therapy?

Sports massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person activity. Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems & imbalances in soft tissues that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. Sports massage, prior to, and after exercise, may enhance performance and recovery and prevent injury.

How is it carried out?

Sports massage therapy consists of a warm up session, followed by relaxation of the muscles. Then, a much deeper tissue massage is performed. Along with rubbing compressions, longitudinal and cross fibre friction, as well as “tapotement” which is used for stimulation, we also combine sports massage therapy with stretching myocardial, myofascial, as well as a soft tissue release. These improve flexibility.

How does it benefit me?

Psychological effects:

  • Improved relaxation
  • Minimal muscle tension
  • Higher range of movements
  • Raising blood circulation to the affected spot

Physical benefits:

  • Increased tissue permeability
  • Enabling essential fluids & nutrients to go easily
  • It dilates the vessels to allow fresh oxygen & nutrition to be transported more towards the muscles.
